British star Michaela Coel is the latest creative to join the cast of the upcoming Black Panther sequel, according to reports.

Variety has said details of Coel’s role remain under wraps but join the returning cast members Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, and Angela Bassett, among others.

Despite being a big name in the UK for some years now, Michaela Coel caught the attention of Hollywood last year following the release of her critically-acclaimed series I May Destroy You, which picked up four Emmy nominations.

Marvel are yet to comment on her reported casting and denied to comment on the matter.

Production for Black Panther 2 began last month in Atlanta but details about the film are locked up. However, we do know the late Chadwick Boseman’s iconic role as King T’Challa will not be recast.

Speaking at Disney’s Investor Day summit in December, Marvel boss Kevin Feige said Boseman’s performance as King T’Challa was too “iconic and transcends any iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past”.

“And it’s for that reason that we will not recast the character,” he said.

Black Panther 2 is due to hit cinemas on 8th July 2022.
