A recent study by researchers at the CIES Football Observatory has estimated who the world’s most expensive players are right now.
They utilised a wide variety of measures to create a scientific model, estimating the top 100 players with the highest monetary value.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has been named the world’s most expensive player, valued at 245.1 million euros (£211.2 million).
Real Madrid’s forward Vinicius Jr and Arsenal’s star boy Bukayo Saka secured the second and third positions in the rankings.
The study, which analysed over 2000 player transfers in the five major European leagues from July 2012 to November 2021, considered various factors such as age, contract length, goals, assists and national team appearances.
Haaland’s exceptional performance during the season, clinching the Premier League Golden Boot with 36 goals in 35 appearances, has solidified his status as a top talent.
Jude Bellingham, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder who is set to join Real Madrid, also featured prominently, ranked fourth.
The study highlighted the dominance of players from Europe’s major leagues, with Benfica’s Antonio Silva standing out as the highest-ranked player from outside those leagues at 23rd.
