‘PES’ Officially Renamed ‘eFootball’ & Becomes Free-To-Play Game

Konami has officially renamed its Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series eFootball, and it will also become a digital-only, free-to-play game.

The news was shared in an official reveal trailer today (21st July) which can be seen below.

The rebranding for PES – now eFootball – will begin this autumn when the game arrives on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

The game will launch with exhibition matches and a selection of 9 clubs to play with but Konami has promised to add new content and game modes, such as cross-platform matches and from then on.

eFootball is built on Unreal Engine has allowed Konami to unveil its ‘Motion Matching’ animation system, which “converts the vast range of movements that players make on the pitch into a series of animations, selecting the most accurate one in real-time”.

“The system provides more than four times as many animations as before, achieving highly realistic movement,” Konami continued. “Motion Matching will be utilised across all eFootball platforms, including last-gen consoles, PCs and mobile.”

More information about eFootball‘s gameplay and online modes are set to be unveiled in late August.
