Following a tragic incident, a French pilot has been prohibited from flying after a fatal collision with a skydiver, resulting in the decapitation of 40-year-old Nicolas Galy.

The unnamed pilot was recently convicted of involuntary manslaughter by the Montauban criminal court, receiving a suspended sentence.

The Midi-Pyrénées Skydiving School Association, the employer of the pilot, has been slapped with a €20,000 (£17,400) fine, half of which, €10,000 (£8,700), is suspended, according to reports from French media.

Emmanuelle Franck, the lawyer representing the victim’s relatives, lamented the “recklessness or negligence” evident in the September 19 hearing after he failed to properly relay the trajectory of the plane to his passenger following the jump in 2018.

The president of the court in south-west France emphasised the lack of communication between the victim and the pilot during the incident.

In response to the tragedy, heightened security measures and mandatory briefings have been implemented.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of communication and adherence to safety protocols in aerial activities.
