A 31-year-old Premier League footballer player has been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences, police have confirmed.
The player, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, was arrested on Friday but has since been bailed as police continue to investigate.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday, July 16 on suspicion of child sex offences.
“He is on police bail pending further enquiries.”
The player’s club have confirmed he has been suspended pending the police investigation.
“We can confirm we have suspended a first-team player pending a police investigation,” the club said in a statement.
“The club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
