Our 2015 #NextGen10 artist Avelino is one we have been tipping for great things for a while now.
Having delivered his most recent audio masterpiece “M.O.E” just a few weeks back, the North London artist is on the lead up to releasing a brand new EP entitled ‘FYO’.
With the project drop date currently unknown, it seems Avelino needed to get something off his chest before releasing further material from what will undoubtedly be one of 2015’s stand out projects.
The brand new track “Freedom”, premiering exclusively with GRM Daily, shows Avelino at his most vulnerable. Recorded during a dark period of his life after the passing of someone close to him, the story telling and emotion bleed through the track – meanwhile he still manages to show hope and explain how he made it through these times. The Ace Keyz produced tale then see’s Avelino’s long time mentor Wretch 32 jump on for part 2 – lifting the mood of freedom, spilling similar stories of problems faced with growth, and of course, heavy wordplay of his own.
Avelino explained, “I have to free this song before I can move forward, it will not feature on my upcoming EP so I thought to myself…if not now then when? Hence the title ‘Freedom’. This is me and Ace in our darkest moments, yet we were still able to produce something positive and hopeful rather than something negative and sinister. Music saved me from self destruction. It can save us all, us musicians are just prophets in that sense.”
