Slowly bubbling under the surface of the mainstream for years, Grime in 2015 has seen an astronomical rise to the forefront of the UK music scene. Disrupting the norm and defining its culture, one of the scenes most respected collectives Elijah and Skilliam have compiled and curated Grime’s essential compilation of the year, Grime 2015 via their label ‘Butterz’.
Speaking on the album, Elijah says:
“There’s been more hype than ever around the artists, music and scene this year than we have ever seen. We wanted to put together something that serves as a good entry point to the vocal side of our music at this point in time. We wanted to toast to a strong 2015 and usher in 2016 letting people know this music isn’t going anywhere for a long time.”
Representing the unrelenting flow and unique perspectives of over 40 different MCs, Grime 2015’s tracklist boasts the likes of Skepta and Stormzy with “Shut Down” and “Not That Deep”, as well as tracks from other household names including Wiley, Kano, Big Narstie, JME, Giggs and D Double E. With producers such as My Nu Leng and Mumdance also weighing in, this compilation is the most representative collection of tracks at the moment highlighting the growing strength of this progressive genre.
Since founding Butterz in 2010, Elijah & Skilliam have become synonymous with cutting-edge releases and in the midst of what has been Grime’s most successful year to date, have released music from Newham Generals, Royal-T, P Money, Flava D and an LP from Swindle which features JME and Flowdan via the Butterz imprint.
