Bolton Wanderers striker Victor Adeboyejo missed Tuesday’s EFL Trophy win against Barrow after suffering a back injury, triggered by an unusual cause: a sneeze.
Manager Ian Evatt confirmed that the 26-year-old forward hurt his back on Monday following what he described as a “hefty sneeze.”
“Victor is a powerful boy and even his sneezes are powerful,” Evatt told The Bolton News. “He felt a bit of a crack between his ribs, and we’re hopeful it’s just a cartilage or muscular issue. We’ll know more after the scan.”
Despite Adeboyejo’s absence, Bolton secured a 3-2 victory to kickstart their EFL Trophy campaign on a positive note.
“I might need to look at myself when players start getting injured by sneezing,” Evatt quipped, referencing the recent spate of injuries affecting the squad. “But that’s just how things are going for us at the moment, and we have to cope.”
Bolton Wanderers have struggled in League One this season, securing just one victory so far. However, the EFL Trophy win offers a much-needed boost for Evatt’s team as they navigate through their injury troubles.
