The Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) has backed PSG’s appeal to end an investigation into a FFP breach by UEFA.
Corruption is an ill that plagues many parts of modern society and unfortunately, football is not excluded from this problem. Many teams have faced allegations of foul play behinds the scenes including Catalan giants Barcelona and prominent Premier League side Chelsea.
PSG is one of the latest teams to come under scrutiny for corruption after the (CAS) has ruled the initial conclusion to a case taken against them during June last year regarding a breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) as “final and binding”.
However, just nine days after this initial decision was made, UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body chairman requested a review of the findings. In response, PSG filed an appeal to CAS seeking to revoke the pending investigation as UEFA took two months to follow up the chairman’s request as their own rules state that to reopen any investigation, it must be done within 10 days of the chairman’s request to review.
CAS moved to uphold PSG’s appeal, exempting them of future punishment which could have included major fines and a suspension from the European competition.
