Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page has announced that he will not be returning for series two of Netflx’s critically acclaimed series Bridgerton.
The British actor was a fan favourite in his role as Duke of Hastings and starred alongside Phoebe Dynevor as lovers.
The new season will start filming later this year and will chronicle the events of the second book in the Bridgerton series.
Season two will follow Anthony Bridgerton and the news was announced via a verified Instagram account which offers news and gossip from the show’s universe.
The message read, “While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.
“Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear. Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown.”
Confirming the news on Twitter, Jean Page said, “Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of this family – on and off-screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.”
Regé-Jean Page recently took home an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his lead role in the series.
Bridgerton premiered on Netflix in December 2020 and has since become Netflix’s most watched series.
Created by Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton was produced by Shonda Rhimes who is also behind hit shows Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.
Rhimes infamously walked away from an extensive ABC deal to sign with Netflix for a lucrative multi-year development deal.
