The Kremlin issued a stark warning, asserting its readiness to deploy nuclear missiles towards major Western cities if pressured to relinquish control over parts of Ukraine it has invaded.

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and close ally of Vladimir Putin, cautioned of an impending “total war” should Russia be compelled to revert to its 1991 borders.

Medvedev proposed a compromise, urging Kyiv and Western powers to recognise Russia’s claims over certain Ukrainian territories. He emphasised the grave consequences of challenging these assertions, threatening nuclear strikes on cities like London, Washington, Berlin and Kyiv itself, along with other significant historical sites.

Speaking as deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Medvedev warned against delaying the return of contested territories to Russia, suggesting that failure to act promptly would result in Russia reclaiming them forcefully, with significant losses for its adversaries.

Furthermore, Medvedev condemned Western opposition to Putin’s agenda, labelling detractors as “snotty Anglo-American fosterlings.”

This latest escalation follows Medvedev’s previous admonition in July, where he warned of “global nuclear fire” should Kyiv forces and NATO attempt to seize Russian territory.

The rhetoric underscores growing tensions between Russia and the West over the fate of Ukraine’s contested regions.
