An iconic staple of Saturday morning television, Soccer AM, is set to be axed by Sky Sports at the end of the season.
Reports have suggested that staff were informed on Tuesday that they will be made redundant in a shock move from the broadcaster.
The show has been on since 1995 – almost 30 years – and became something of a cult classic, particularly in the late 90s and early 00s under the helm of presenters Tim Lovejoy and Helen Chamberlain.
Today the flagship show is manned by John Fendley and Jimmy Bullard, but that partnership looks set to be dissolved ahead of next season.
It is being reported that Sky Sports are aiming to target younger viewers by moving Saturday Social – which currently airs before Soccer AM – forward into its slot.
Whilst official confirmation is yet to come in, it’s not looking good for longtime fans of Soccer AM, or the people behind it.
