Dani Harmer is officially set to return to her role as Tracy Beaker – 15 years after the last series aired on CBBC.

The 31-year-old will star as Tracy in a brand-new series named My Mum Tracy Beaker which will follow the former bad-tempered teenager as a single mother to her daughter, Jess.

The series, which is expected to hit the BBC early next year, is based on Jacqueline Wilson’s 2018 book of the same name. Wilson also wrote the children’s novels which inspired the original Tracy Beaker series.

The official synopsis for the book reads: “Jess thinks Tracy is the best mum ever, even when she shouts at her teachers! Yes, their flat’s a bit mouldy. It’s only just big enough for two. And the Duke Estate is a bit scary. But it’s their happy home.”

“Until Sean Godfrey, Tracy’s rich boyfriend, whisks them away to his mansion, life of fast cars and celebrity stardom. Will Jess’s brilliant mum turn into a new person altogether?”

Speaking on her return to the role as Tracy Beaker, Harmer said: “
I cannot wait to return (again) to the role of Tracy! I’m just like a fan myself and want to know what happens next and where this next journey will take her.

“I absolutely adore playing the character and I’m looking forward to taking on the challenge of portraying her as a first time mum.”

News of My Mum Tracy Beaker comes 15 years after The Story of Tracy Beaker last aired on TV, following its first ever showing in 2002. The series was then followed by its spin-off, Tracy Beaker Returns between 2010 and 2012.
