After a few months off the grid, Will Smith has returned to offer an emotional apology to Chris Rock over the infamous Oscars slap.
Taking to social media, Will Smith posted a six-minute video which he captioned: “Thanx y’all.”
During the video, Smith addresses many of the questions people have asked since the incident, which saw him slap Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife, Jada, and her shaved head. Subsequently, Smith was banned from the Academy for ten years.
“It’s all fuzzy,” Smith says in the video when addressing why he didn’t apologise to Chris on the night. “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out.”
He added: “I made a choice on my own, from my own experiences, from my history with Chris,” Smith says. “Jada had nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, babe. I want to say sorry to my kids and my family for the heat that I brought on all of us.”
He also goes on to say “I am human and I made a mistake and I’m trying not to think of myself as a piece of s**t.”
