The prime minister has warned that the Coronavirus crisis will get worse before it gets better.

Boris Johnson, who is isolating himself after testing positive for Coronavirus, says there could be more severe restrictions if appropriate. Britons will also get a leaflet outlining the government’s guidelines on leaving the house and health information.

It follows criticism about the quality of guidance from the government to date.

The number of people in the UK who have died from coronavirus has now reached 1,019, with an additional 260 deaths confirmed on Saturday. There are currently 17,089 cases confirmed in the UK.

In a letter sent to 30 million households at an estimated expense of £ 5.8 million, Mr Johnson writes, “From the start, we have sought to put in the right measures at the right time. We will not hesitate to go further if that is what the scientific and medical advice tells us we must do.”

Tough measures to combat the spread of coronavirus were introduced last week, including a ban on more than two people having public gatherings and the closure of shops selling non-essential items.
