It’s the first Saturday of the month which means that another Black Pound Day has arrived!
The campaign sees people across the UK supporting and investing in Black-owned businesses for the day, with the description reading: “We will replace our normal purchases with Black-owned businesses where possible for one full day.”
Since launching in 2020, the Black Pound Day initiative has gone from strength to strength and a permanent BPD store opened in Westfield London last year; selling a range products from Black-owned brands ranging from homeware, footwear and clothing, to skincare, make-up, books and jewellery.
Today (February 4) also marks the launch of BPD’s pop-up store in Westfield Stratford which will be open until the end of February.
The official organisation’s website states: “Black Pound Day is a solution-based approach to support the growth of the UK Black economy. As a direct and peaceful response to the systematic racism that creates un-equality for the Black community in the United Kingdom.”
“[Swiss’] idea hopes to underpin our long-term financial growth and infrastructure, empowering and motivating the Black community.
“The day is also an opportunity to find out how everyone can support Black businesses over the long-term. So don’t forget to share brands that you love, businesses that you can’t live without, and make sure to hashtag #BlackPoundDay.”
