In a recent interview, Little Simz reveals that she narrowly missed out on the role of Shuri in Black Panther.

Following her freshly released visuals for “Low Tides” and an interview with DJ Target, Little Simz sits down with Crack Magazine to discuss acting, representation and festivals. The 24-year-old rapper revealed that she had auditioned for Shuri which instead went to her longtime friend Letitia Wright.

“It’s still a win for me. Because again, another young black woman from ends that’s just made it work,” she said. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Simz ended up touring with Gorillaz during the production of the film.

Little Simz also adds how important representation in the industry following recent criticisms of a lack of female artists performing at festivals. This has led her to organising her own festival at Camden Roundhouse, Welcome To Wonderland: The Experience 2, where she hopes to celebrate “beautiful, talented women of colour”.

I guess if you want it done right you gotta do it yourself.
