A schoolboy from Middlesex has dropped out of school to play Fortnite professionally.

Benjy Fish, aged 15, has over 150,000 YouTube subscribers and is currently one of the most successful Fortnite e-sport players on the internet.

Benjy has qualified for the Fortnite World Cup which earned him £50,000 and will have the chance to battle against other players for the chance to win from the £23 million prize pool. The competition will take place in New York this summer in July across two days and the winner will receive a life-changing sum of money.

Benjy was encouraged to leave school by his mother and will take his GCSE exams at home with the help of a tutor. The Middlesex hailing player has qualified for the Solo and Duo finals at the Fortnite World Cup and will represent the NRG eSports organisation who have several signed e-sport professionals across many games including Apex Legends, Dragon Ball Fighterz and Overwatch.

The E-Sports industry is extremely profitable and a recent study predicted that it will soon eclipse the profits generated from more traditional sports such as football and basketball.

Young people often leave school to pursue the arts and sport; perhaps the rise in the profitability of e-sports will see this become a trend and a new avenue for success.
